Greater Nepal activist Phanindra Nepal arrested from Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Phanindra Nepal, the coordinator of Greater Nepal, was arrested by police while staging a protest against the India-China agreement on using the Lipulekh route to access Mansarovar.

Nepal had been staging a sit-in protest outside the southern gate of Singha Durbar since 12 pm, condemning what he described as Indian encroachment on Nepalese sovereignty over Lipulekh. Police detained him on charges of demonstrating in a restricted area.

Following his arrest, Nepal was taken to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Durbar. He has been vocal against the agreement between China and India, which designates Lipulekh as a route to Mansarovar, claiming it undermines Nepal’s sovereignty.

Nepal criticized the government for remaining silent on the issue and labeled its response as irresponsible. He warned that continued inaction would jeopardize the protection of Nepali territory.

Nepal had organized the protest under the banner of the Greater Nepal Nationalist Front, intending to stage the sit-in from noon to 4 pm. However, police intervened and arrested him shortly after the protest began.
