46 UML members in Godawari Municipality quit expressing discontent with party leadership

KATHMANDU: Forty-six members of UML from Godawari Municipality-2 in Kailali, the hometown of CPN-UML Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta, have collectively announced their resignation from the party.

The members submitted their resignation letter on December 26, addressing the municipal committee president of UML, including signatures and membership numbers.

These 46 individuals had initially joined UML after leaving Maoist Centre.

The resignation letter, which was made public by the office of Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, states that those resigning felt humiliated and sidelined within the party, often being treated as former Maoists and experiencing disrespect.

They also mentioned their inability to work within the party’s factional politics and internal struggles, especially against the leadership of General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel.

The letter further highlights that the current UML policy, which seems focused on recruiting as many members as possible from other parties, has faced criticism from some leaders, particularly due to ongoing attacks on the people’s war by certain top leaders.
