KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has reported that in the first five months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, 83 people have lost their lives due to wild animals attacks.
The police released the details of the human casualties from wild animal attacks from July to December on social media platform X (Twitter) on Monday.
According to the police, a total of 599 people were injured during this period due to wild animal attacks, and 256 individuals were rescued.
The highest number of deaths occurred due to snake bites, with 70 fatalities recorded in the first five months.
Additionally, six people were killed by elephant attacks, three by tiger attacks, and four by rhino attacks, as per the police data.
The data also reveals that in the past five months, 532 people were injured by snake bites, 14 by elephant attacks, 24 by tiger attacks, 14 by rhino attacks, and 13 by bear attacks.
The police successfully rescued 236 individuals from snake bites, three from elephant attacks, 11 from tiger attacks, four from rhino attacks, and two from bear attacks.
A total of 1,835 police officers were deployed to handle incidents involving wild animals.
