KATHMANDU: The second day of the eighth Central Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (UML) has begun at the party office in Chyasal, Lalitpur.

On the second day of the meeting, which is being held after 10 months, the discussion is focused on the political report presented by party president and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday.

In a departure from the tradition of collective discussions on documents, the UML has introduced a new approach this time.

Each central member has been given three minutes to speak on the 47-page political report presented by Oli, as well as on other topics.

This time, both the political and organizational reports have allowed central members to speak.

Vice-Chair Surendra Pandey mentioned that the central members have been allotted three minutes to discuss the reports and other contemporary issues.

Oli’s political report covers various issues, including the party’s future plans, strengthening the party organization, the current government’s formation, past coalition governments, government priorities, constitutional amendments, economic reforms, and cooperatives.

The meeting is being attended by 357 central members, the chairpersons of the seven provinces, and the heads of four central commissions.

The meeting is expected to conclude on Monday itself; however, if not, the discussions will continue on Tuesday.

The UML Central Committee meeting has not been held since February 2023. This is the first Central Committee meeting since Oli became Prime Minister on July 14, 2024.

Oli has already presented a review report on the formation of the government and the power-sharing agreement with the Nepali Congress.

His report highlights the achievements of the coalition government in the first six months and the work planned for the upcoming days.
