Kanchan Bichha loses Assembly seat after RPP expulsion for party betrayal

KATHMANDU: Madhesh Province’s proportional representation (women category) lawmaker Kanchan Bichha has been removed from her position after the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) expelled her for violating party discipline.

RPP had expelled Bichha from the party’s general membership for six months, accusing her of working against party policy and breaching organizational discipline.

Following the party’s decision, the RPP Central Executive Committee submitted a letter to the Province Assembly Secretariat requesting the withdrawal of her Assembly membership. The Secretariat confirmed that the request has been formally registered.

The Province Assembly announced the termination of her membership citing Section 34 of the Political Parties Act, 2016, and Rules 190 and 191 of the Province Assembly Regulations, 2018.

The action came after Bichha joined the government led by Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav on Wednesday, prompting RPP to initiate disciplinary measures.

The Province Assembly will now begin the process to fill the vacant proportional representation seat as per legal provisions.
