HoR elections: EC accelerates final-phase preparations



KATHMANDU: With only 90 days remaining until the election of members to the House of Representatives, scheduled for March 5, 2026, preparations are moving ahead at full speed.

The Election Commission (EC) has intensified its efforts, and political parties are also ramping up their internal activities with the election in focus.

The Commission will begin implementing the proportional electoral system program starting this Saturday. According to the schedule, political parties must submit their applications for the proportional electoral system between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on December 7. The list of parties that apply will be published on December 10.

For parties submitting applications, the deadline to submit their closed lists has been set for 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on December 28 and 29. The final list of proportional representation candidates will be published on February 13, according to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

Under the direct election program, candidate nominations will be registered on January 20, with the list of nominees published the same day. Complaints against candidacies can be filed on January 21.

A preliminary list of candidates will be published on January 22. Candidates may withdraw their names on January 23, after which the final list of candidates will be published and election symbols assigned.
