Free Wi-Fi  in public places and remote areas: Communications Minister



KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has said that the government is committed to expanding free Wi-Fi internet service in major public places of the country.

While inspecting the free Wi-Fi internet service provided in public places in Kathmandu today, he expressed his commitment to continue working as a campaign to expand internet access in sensitive and important public places in the federal capital Kathmandu as well as in rural areas outside Kathmandu.

Stating that free Wi-Fi internet has been successfully provided in 19 public places, Minister Kharel said the campaign has been taken forward with the goal of providing free Wi-Fi internet in public places in Solukhumbu, Ramechhap, Rautahat, Gulmi, Myagdi, Jumla, Baitadi and other districts, which are considered very remote in terms of internet access in the country.

Nepal Telecommunication Authority is working to expand the service in coordination and collaboration with companies including Nepal Telecom, private sector Ncell, Worldlink, Vianet and other companies, as well as in partnership with the community.

Minister for Communications Kharel, along with a team including Secretary to the Ministry Radhika Aryal, visited the New Bus Park, Teaching Hospital, Pashupati Aryaghat complex, and Tribhuvan International Airport to log in and check the internet service provided free of charge by the government.

Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Radhika Aryal said that the internet capacity will be expanded in the coming days, considering the satisfaction of the service recipients.
