SC issues show-cause notice to government

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) issued a show-cause notice in response to a writ filed against the Inquiry Commission regarding the incidents that took place on September 8-9, demanding a written reply from the government.

A division bench comprising Officiating Chief Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal and Judge Abdul Ajiz Musalman issued the verdict on Monday.

The writ petition, filed against Commission Chair Gauri Bahadur Karki and members Bigyan Raj Sharma and Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari, also named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as defendants. The Commission was formed on September 21.

The writ, filed by Bipin Dhakal, questioned the impartiality and neutrality of the Commission, citing concerns over the public opinions expressed by its members prior to the investigation.
