Nepali Communist Party adopts nine-point agreement

KATHMANDU: A new Nepali Communist Party has been formed through the unification of several leftist forces, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist).

During a special ceremony held at Bhrikutimandap on Wednesday, leaders from the Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist, Nepal Socialist Party, Jana Samajwadi Party Nepal, Nepal Communist Party, CPN (Maoist Socialist), and CPN (Samyabadi), among others, announced their merger.

The unity declaration endorsed a nine-point agreement, selecting Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as the party’s coordinator and Madhav Kumar Nepal as the co-coordinator.

All leaders and members of the uniting parties have now been recognized as members of the Nepali Communist Party, which will use the five-pointed star as its election symbol.

The party’s guiding ideology is Marxism–Leninism, and its program is based on scientific socialism with Nepali characteristics.

It was also agreed that a National Unity Convention will be held within six months and that the central committee will be formed through mutual understanding by integrating existing committees of the uniting parties.
