Nine left parties, including Maoists, to announce unity today



KATHMANDU: A political unity among left nine parties, including the Maoist Center, is being announced today.

According to Maoist Center Spokesperson Agni Sapkota, a formal unity declaration program will take place at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu at 11 a.m.

The unification includes the Maoist Center, Unified Socialist, Nepal Samajwadi Party led by Mahindra Raya Yadav, Raju Karki’s CPN (Maoist), Subhash Raj Kafle’s Jana Samajwadi Party, Chiran Pun’s CPN (Maoist), Karnajit Budhathoki’s Maoist Socialist, Prem Bahadur Singh’s CPN (Communist), and Gopal Kirati’s Maoist Communist Party Nepal.

The parties have agreed to name the unified entity “Nepali Communist Party”, with a five-pointed star as its election symbol. The program will also announce the leadership structure of the new party — Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will serve as coordinator, while Madhav Kumar Nepal will be the co-coordinator.
