Former President Yadav calls for holistic approach to sustainable development

KATHMANDU: Former President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has emphasized that sustainable development should not be limited to economic and physical progress alone.

He stressed the need to give equal importance to education, social advancement, and technological innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Addressing an International Seminar on Interdisciplinary Studies for Sustainable Development, the former President highlighted the importance of transformative leadership committed to social welfare and justice. He also called on youth to embrace roles of responsible and visionary leadership.

Kathmandu University Vice Chancellor Dr. Achyut Wagle remarked that interdisciplinary studies encourage students to think in multidimensional ways, promote innovation, and strengthen their connection with the community.

Programme Chair Badri Dev Pande noted that international seminars like this inspire young people to pursue paths toward transformative leadership.

Madhav Neupane, Principal of National College, said the two-day seminar, held from September 4–5, featured extensive discussions on sustainable development, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches, education-community engagement, and the sustainability of digitalization.

The event brought together representatives from various academic institutions, researchers, students, and social workers.
