Bidya Bhandari’s membership not a Statute Convention issue: UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, who also serves as the Chairman of CPN-UML, has stated that the issue of renewing former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s party membership is not a matter to be discussed at the Statute Convention.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the convention in Godavari on Friday, Oli addressed the ongoing criticisms surrounding Bhandari’s membership. He emphasized that such concerns are not related to the legal or legislative matters being handled by the Statute Convention.

“Questions of law are not within the scope of the Statute Convention,” he said, referring indirectly to the controversy. “Those issues are matters for discussion at the committee level. The Secretariat, the Standing Committee, and the Politburo will deliberate on them.”

Oli stressed that the convention should remain focused on its legislative purpose: “We will move the Statute Convention forward as per its intended agenda. Our focus will remain on the core legislative matters at hand.”

He further informed that the discussion on the main document will take place on Saturday, and all programs will be finalized by Sunday.
