KATHMANDU: WorldLink Communications has confirmed that unregistered social media platforms are now inaccessible on its network.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the company said it had implemented the government’s directive requiring all telecom and internet operators to restrict access to platforms that have not formally registered in Nepal.
The move comes after the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) instructed service providers to enforce the decision, citing a Supreme Court order, a Cabinet resolution, and ministerial directives from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
Nepal Telecom and Ncell had already blocked the platforms earlier this week. WorldLink’s compliance marks the first major private ISP outside the telecom sector to enforce the restrictions.
The NTA’s directive covers 26 platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, YouTube, and WhatsApp, services that are widely used across Nepal for communication, business, and social interaction.
WorldLink stated that the suspension would remain in place until further notice in line with regulatory requirements.
