Indra Bahadur Baniya appointed Chief Minister of Bagmati Province



HETAUDA: Indra Bahadur Baniya has been appointed the new Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, securing the support of 64 members in the 110-member provincial assembly.

Bagmati Province Head Deepak Prasad Devkota appointed Baniya to the post on Tuesday after he staked a claim to the position with the backing of his own party, the Nepali Congress (37 seats), and coalition partner CPN-UML (27 seats).

A resident of Makwanpur and the current President of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Committee, Baniya becomes the sixth Chief Minister of Bagmati. He follows predecessors Dormani Paudel, Asta Laxmi Shakya, Rajendra Pandey, Shalikram Jamkattel, and Bahadur Singh Lama.
