KATHMANDU: After lengthy discussions, the parliamentary special investigation committee on the ‘cooling-off period’ reached a consensus and unanimously passed the investigation report this morning.
According to committee member Ishwori Gharti, all seven members of the committee have signed the report. The committee was formed to investigate the insertion of the word “except” in the Federal Civil Service Bill, which rendered the provision related to the cooling off period ineffective.
Despite continuous discussions from Sunday morning through Monday night, the meeting extended into Tuesday morning due to difficulties in agreeing on who inserted the word “except” into the bill.
Initially, the committee was given 21 days for investigation, with an additional 7 days granted later. However, it struggled to reach a consensus within this timeframe.
The deadline for the committee’s investigation was midnight on Sunday, but the meeting was adjourned and resumed Tuesday morning to finalize the report.
Details regarding the contents of any counter-protests are yet to be disclosed. The committee, coordinated by Nepali Congress Joint General Secretary Jiwan Pariyar, consists of two MPs each from the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, one from CPN-Maoist, and one each from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
Members include Pariyar (coordinator) and Sushila Thing (Nepali Congress), Ishwori Gharti and Narayan Prasad Acharya (UML), Madhav Sapkota (Maoist), Ganesh Parajuli (RSP), and Roshan Karki (RPP).
