Nepal retains ACC U-16 East Zone Cup



KATHMANDU: Nepal has won the ACC U-16 East Zone Cup title, defeating Singapore by 2 wickets in the final match held on Saturday.

Chasing a modest target of 114 runs, Nepal reached the score in 29 overs, losing 8 wickets along the way.

Joy Thapa anchored the chase with an unbeaten 24-run knock to take Nepal across the line.

Earlier, Singapore won the toss and opted to bat first, but were bowled out for 113 runs in 40.5 overs.

Rohan Austin was the top scorer for Singapore with 23 runs off more than 90 deliveries, while captain Rihan Naik added 15 runs.

Nepal’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, led by Abhaya Yadav, who claimed 3 wickets for 34 runs in his 10 overs. Sushil Bahadur Rawal also took 3 wickets, while Shubham Khanal grabbed 2, and captain Bipin Prasad Sharma took 1 wicket.

With this victory, Nepal not only won the title but also finished the tournament undefeated. The team had earlier beaten Singapore in the group stage as well.

Nepal, the defending champion, successfully retained its title, showcasing strong all-round performances throughout the tournament.
