NC leader Sharma asks former king to take people’s mandate to change regime

JHAPA: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma urged the former king to establish the system as he desires by winning seats in the elections.

At a programme organized by the Nepali Congress in Dhulabari in Jhapa on Saturday, Sharma recommended that the former king, Gyanendra Shah, should contest the upcoming general elections in 2084 BS, using the Crown as his election symbol and change the system by a two-thirds majority if the former king truly believes he has public support.

“The election is scheduled for 2084. If you believe you have the people’s support, you can run with the Crown as your election symbol,” Sharma stated.

The NC leader also argued that no other options than election were accepted for the change in regime and cautioned the former king not to push the country towards anarchy.

Saying that the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) declared the federal republic in the nation, Sharma mentioned that taking to the streets by some pro-monarchists cannot subvert the CA decision.

“The only way to alter the CA decision is to formally amend the constitution. For this to do, a two-third majority vote is compulsory,” he stated.
