Eight injured in Jajarkot earthquakes



KATHMANDU: Eight people have been injured in two earthquakes measuring 5.2 and 5.5 magnitude that struck Kuse Rural Municipality-9, Paink of Jajarkot late Friday night.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), six injuries were reported in Jajarkot and two in Rukum West, based on updates from the respective District Administration Offices and the National Emergency Operations Center.

Spokesperson Ram Bahadur KC said minor cracks have been reported in both private houses and government buildings in Jajarkot, Rukum West, and Kalikot districts.

Most injuries occurred not due to collapsing structures, but because people panicked and jumped from rooftops or upper floors, or ran outside carelessly during the tremors, the authority stated.

The NDRRMA has urged the public to evacuate cautiously during earthquakes and to follow building codes that ensure earthquake-resistant construction for future safety.
