KATHMANDU: The opposition parties, including the main opposition Maoist Centre, have protested against the Ministry of Energy for repeatedly demanding clarifications from Kulman Ghising, the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

As soon as the House of Representatives meeting began on Wednesday, opposition lawmakers stood up from their seats to protest.

In response, Speaker Devraj Ghimire allowed time for Hitraj Pandey, the Chief Whip of the Maoist Centre, to speak.

Pandey criticized the repeated clarifications demanded from Ghising and the zero mark given in his performance evaluation, calling for a response from the government through the Speaker.

“Now, it is not just about asking for an explanation, but also about saying his performance evaluation has been marked as zero. This government is repeatedly siding with the middlemen, who always talk about collecting arrears, creating obstacles in the process,” he said.

“With this in mind, we would like to issue a serious warning to this government,” he said. “We sincerely urge the Speaker to rule on this matter. We will continue the protest until a ruling is made.”

After Chief Whip Pandey spoke on behalf of the opposition, lawmakers stood up again to protest.

However, they sat down after Speaker Ghimire mentioned that some MPs had requested time to speak during the emergency session.

Additionally, RPP MP Gyanendra Shahi also warned that the opposition would protest both inside the House and on the streets if Ghising is removed.
