Two Nuwakot hospitals shut down for operating illegally

NUWAKOT: Two hospitals in the eastern Nuwakot district have been closed and one fined after a joint market monitoring team discovered they were operating without proper registration, officials confirmed Tuesday.

The Office of Industry and Commerce, Nuwakot, led the operation, which resulted in the immediate sealing of Dupcheshwor Nepal Hospital. The hospital was also fined Rs 20,000 for its illegal operation, according to Chief Kishor Sapkota.

Similarly, Mailak Diagnostic Hospital was also found to be operating without registration and was subsequently shut down.

The crackdown occurred during a comprehensive on-site monitoring of 11 establishments, including hospitals, grocery stores, veterinary clinics, and food suppliers, across Tadi, Dupcheshwor, and Panchakanya rural municipalities on Tuesday.

Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Humagai led the monitoring team, which inspected three hospitals, four grocery and food shops, and four veterinary shops.

The closures highlight ongoing concerns regarding regulatory compliance within the district’s healthcare sector.
