Nepalis deported from the US reluctant to file cases against brokers

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police interrogated eight Nepalis who were deported from the United States and returned to Nepal on Wednesday.

The group, which arrived on a US chartered flight Wednesday morning, was taken to the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau for questioning.

Superintendent of Police Narendra Kunwar, spokesperson for the Bureau, stated that the interrogation focused on the details of their journey to the US.

During the initial questioning, it was revealed that some of the Nepalis had traveled to the US via Brazil by land.

Kunwar confirmed that they were deported for violating US immigration laws.

However, the deported individuals have expressed no interest in filing cases against the brokers who facilitated their illegal entry into the US, according to the spokesperson.

On Wednesday, eight Nepalis were returned to Nepal on a chartered flight, and one individual arrived via Qatar. After the interrogation, police are preparing to hand them over to their families.
