Arguments in favor of defendants continue in Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case



KATHMANDU: The legal proceedings for the seven defendants, including Rabi Lamichhane, the Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), accused in the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case in Gandaki-Kaski, continue at the Kaski District Court.

The case involves the misappropriation of funds from the cooperative’s savings.

The legal practitioners representing the defendants began their closing arguments on Friday, and the session will continue today, according to Shrestedar Rajan Khanal of the court.

On Friday, the defense lawyers for Leela Pachain and Chhabilal Joshi presented their arguments, although their statements have not yet been concluded, Khanal noted.

Prior to the defense arguments, the government attorney and the lawyers for the victim presented their cases.

District Attorney Kamala Kafle explained that once the defense lawyers conclude their arguments, the prosecution will present rebuttal arguments.

After the hearing, the court will issue an order regarding whether the defendants should remain in custody for trial or be released pending further investigation.

The closing arguments are being held for a number of individuals, including Lamichhane, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, Leela Pachain, Krishna Bahadur Gurung, Ram Bahadur Khanal, and others involved in the cooperative fraud case.
