Congress leaders backing special general convention warn against attempts to postpone the event

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leaders who have signed in support of holding a special general convention have warned the party leadership not to engage in any conspiracy to postpone the upcoming general convention.

Speaking at an interaction program held in Kathmandu on Thursday regarding preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention, the leaders said that if the regular general convention is obstructed, a special general convention will automatically come into effect. They cautioned the leadership not to attempt to defer the event.

NC leader Gururaj Ghimire said that if the schedule passed by the Central Committee is altered, the party could be pushed toward a special general convention.

He urged the leadership not to play games to delay the convention, adding that the leadership agreed to proceed with the regular general convention only after facing pressure for a special one.

Ghimire said they would prepare for the general convention with majority strength on their side, and cautioned others not to underestimate their position.

He also said they would work to ensure the party’s schedule is successfully implemented. Calling on supporters to remain active in the constituencies, Ghimire emphasized that any obstacles would be faced collectively and with unity.
