Gagan Thapa proposes Nepali Congress 15th general convention from Dec 31 to Jan 3

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has proposed holding the party’s 15th general convention from December 31 to January 3.

Thapa presented the proposal with a detailed schedule at the Central Working Committee meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s Sanepa office.

He suggested holding the convention before the March elections to strengthen unity among party leaders and workers, while seeking a middle path to gain consensus despite the idea of holding it this month.

However, the establishment faction led by acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka favors participating in the elections first and holding the general convention in April or May.

With the Khadka faction holding the majority in the committee, Thapa’s proposal faces an uphill task. Leaders, including Dr. Shekhar Koirala, General Secretary Bishwprakash Sharma, and Vice President Dhanaraj Gurung, continue to push for holding the convention before the elections.
