Five rescued, seven still missing after avalanche in Rolwaling Valley



BEDING: Five people, two foreigners and three Nepalis, injured in an avalanche in the Rolwaling Valley have been rescued by helicopter on Tuesday, while seven others remain missing.

Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Risal said the rescued climbers were airlifted from the base camp of Yalung Ri Himal. Three other Nepali guides who managed to escape the avalanche have taken shelter in Na village and are awaiting evacuation.

The avalanche struck early Monday morning at a campsite where 15 climbers , including five foreigners, from two travel companies had set up tents for expeditions to Dolma Khang and Yalung Ri peaks.

According to authorities, three people, including one foreign national, lost their lives in the incident, while the condition of the missing climbers remains unknown.

A joint rescue team comprising Nepal Army personnel and other security forces has been deployed to Na village to assist in the search and rescue operations, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Kumar Mahato.
