GORKHA: The bodies of two Italian climbers, missing for the past five days in the Pangbari Himal, have been recovered.
The climbers, 67-year-old Farronato Stefano and 37-year-old Caputo Alessandro, were found buried under snow at Camp 1 of Pangbari Himal, according to Rajkumar Shrestha, spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police at Gorkha District Police Office.
The bodies were airlifted to Samagaun by helicopter. The climbers had been stranded along with three other Italian citizens and one Nepali guide since last Wednesday while returning from the mountain due to heavy snowfall. Farinato and Gaputo were unable to complete their ascent and were trapped during their descent.
Among those stranded, 65-year-old Italian citizen Valter Perlino was rescued by helicopter on Saturday. The Nepali guides accompanying them, Pemba Renji Sherpa, Dawa Chhiri Sherpa, and Pasang Tamang, were also rescued and flown to Kathmandu for medical treatment.
