Six highways blocked nationwide due to continuous rainfall

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall since Friday night has triggered landslides at multiple locations, blocking six major highways across the country.

Traffic police said several key routes have been completely obstructed, while some areas are operating only one-way traffic. Road networks connecting Kathmandu Valley to other districts have also been disrupted.

According to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, a landslide near Jholungepul in Sanga, Bhaktapur, has disrupted movement, while Kantilo Highway remains blocked at Takuche in Bagmati Rural Municipality–3, Lalitpur.

Similarly, the Farping–Sasneri road in Indrasarowar Rural Municipality–4, Makwanpur, has been closed after a landslide above the Mahalaxmi stream. Landslides at Mamti Khola and Buldhunga in Roshi Rural Municipality–11, Kavrepalanchok, have blocked the BP Highway.

On the Araniko Highway, the road has collapsed at Char Kilo in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality–4, Sindhupalchok, while additional landslides at Khawa and 54 Kilo in Dhulikhel have fully obstructed traffic.

The Narayangadh–Muglin road section has also been blocked after a landslide near Tui Khola bridge in Ichhakamana Rural Municipality–5, Chitwan.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid travel in landslide-prone areas unless absolutely necessary, use alternative safe routes, and strictly follow local administration instructions.
