Vehicle movement halted on Hetauda–Kathmandu routes amid flood, landslide risk

KATHMANDU: Authorities have suspended vehicle movement along the Hetauda–Kathmandu roads citing increased risks of floods and landslides due to continuous rainfall.

According to Makwanpur District Police spokesperson Pushkar Bogati, the decision was made following the directive of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

Traffic has been halted since early morning on three key routes linking Hetauda with the capital — the Kanti Lokpath, Hetauda–Bhaisey–Fakhel road, and Hetauda–Chitlang–Kathmandu road. Police have stopped vehicles bound for Kathmandu at Chowkitol, Bhaisey, and Piple checkpoints in Hetauda, leaving many passengers stranded.

Although no landslides or flood blockages have been reported so far, police officials said the preventive suspension was necessary to minimize risks as heavy rains continue.

Meanwhile, Makwanpur Chief District Officer Skim Shrestha urged people to avoid long-distance or nighttime travel until October 6, and called on residents to remain alert amid the worsening weather.
