Rainfall continues across country, heaviest in Kailali



KATHMANDU: Significant rainfall has been recorded across the country since early this morning, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division.

Rainfall has intensified throughout the day, causing localized flooding in several areas. In the past hour alone, Kathmandu received 6 mm of rain, Lalitpur 9.8 mm, and Bhaktapur 5 mm.

The Department reported that rain is currently concentrated in the Terai regions, including districts surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. Parsa and Rautahat each recorded 10 mm and 10.6 mm of rainfall respectively, with precipitation also reported in Mahottari and Dhanusha.

The highest rainfall in the past 12 hours was recorded in Garbama, Kailali, where 83.2 mm of rain fell, according to Department spokesperson Dinkar Kayastha. During the same period, Parsa recorded 40 mm and Bara 28 mm.

The Department has already issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall today and tomorrow, with more rain expected overnight. Currently, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in many areas of Bagmati and Madhesh Provinces, in some parts of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces, and in a few areas of Koshi Province.

The rainfall system is moving in an east-northeast direction. The public is advised to remain alert, follow safety precautions, and stay updated with the latest weather information.
