Monsoon to peak today and tomorrow; weather improvement expected from Monday



KATHMANDU: With monsoon conditions expected to strengthen today and tomorrow, the Weather Forecasting Division has warned of possible heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country and urged the public to remain vigilant (on Saturday and Sunday).

The Division stated that there is a possibility of heavy rain in a few areas in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi Province, Madhes Province, Bagmati Province, and Gandaki Province, and in one or two places in the Terai region of Lumbini Province over the next 24 hours.

It further mentioned the possibility of very heavy rainfall in one or two places in the hilly and Terai regions of Madhes Province, Bagmati Province, and Gandaki Province.

Meteorologists have predicted that monsoon winds originating from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will become more active starting Saturday morning.

Meteorologist Pratima Manandhar informed that light to moderate rainfall is currently occurring in some places in Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and Lumbini Province, and that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in several parts of the country on Saturday and Sunday.

The weather is expected to gradually improve from Monday. “Currently, the effect of water vapor-rich air (monsoon wind) coming from the Bay of Bengal is being felt across the country,” she said.

On Saturday afternoon, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate rainfall with thunder/lightning is expected in many areas of the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi Province, Madhes Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, and Lumbini Province, and in some parts of the hilly and Terai areas of the remaining provinces.
