Maoist Centre to launch protests against government after Dashain-Tihar

KATHMANDU: The main opposition, CPN (Maoist Centre), has decided to initiate protests against the government after the Dashain and Tihar festivals.

Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota said the office-bearers’ meeting held at the party headquarters in Parisdanda on Thursday concluded that corruption is on the rise and governance has weakened, prompting the need for protest.

He added that the party would use street demonstrations to raise public awareness about democratic republican socialism and the socialist-oriented system envisioned in the constitution.

The meeting also decided to make the party’s Mid-Hill Highway campaign, set to resume on September 6, more result-oriented, focusing on interactions and dialogues rather than large gatherings.

Sapkota further said the party will study the government’s recent move to restrict social media platforms, which, at first glance, appears to suppress freedom of expression.

He informed that Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ briefed the meeting about ongoing talks with CPN (Unified Socialist) and CPN regarding possible party unification.
