Sudurpaschim Province to build trail in Badimalika with ADB support

KATHMANDU: The Sudurpaschim Province government is set to construct a hiking trail connecting Badimalika and Khaptad, a prominent religious and tourist destination, with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Bharat Prasad Shrestha, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forests, and Environment, said the project aims to improve infrastructure for tourists in the region. Under the ADB-supported project, the provincial government will develop tourism-related facilities with a total assistance of Rs 220 million.

“For this fiscal year, a budget of Rs 70 million has been allocated for the trail connecting Badimalika and Khaptad,” Shrestha said. “Last year, we spent Rs 12.5 million on constructing portions of the trail and rest houses in the area.”

The provincial government has also undertaken measures to promote tourism by training hotel operators, homestay owners, and tourist guides. Additionally, help desks have been set up at the Gaddachauki and Gaurifanta border points to assist visitors.

Shrestha noted that the province is prioritizing tourism development and infrastructure upgrades. This year, Rs 7 million has been allocated for the Tikapur Airport upgrade, while a Madhagaun airport is under construction with 25% provincial government investment, keeping in mind its proximity to Shuklaphanta National Park.

He said Badimalika, considered a heavenly destination in Bajura, has become an important attraction for tourists and devotees alike. The provincial government’s efforts aim to enhance accessibility and foster nature-based tourism in the region.
