RSP, RPP lawmakers continue House boycott

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) continued their boycott of the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, reiterating their demand for the formation of a high-level investigation committee into the visit visa controversy.

As soon as Thursday’s session began, lawmakers from both parties stood up in protest, saying their demands had not been addressed. Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire then gave floor time to RSP lawmaker Ashok Chaudhary, who said the movement would continue until the government listened to their concerns.

Chaudhary also objected to what he described as a trend of imprisoning those who spoke out against irregularities.

Similarly, RPP lawmaker Dhawal Shumsher Rana demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli clarify reports of Nepal agreeing to China’s Global Security Initiative (GSI). Rana further argued that discouraging private education in Nepal would be a misguided move.

Both parties have been consistently obstructing parliamentary proceedings, pressing for the formation of a high-level probe panel on the visit visa issue.
