PM Oli’s India visit uncertain, says Indian media



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is reportedly unlikely to visit India, according to an Indian news outlet. The Print Online cited sources suggesting that Oli’s planned visit on September 15 may not take place.

The report comes shortly after a brief meeting between PM Modi and PM Oli on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, earlier this week.

The news outlet noted that tensions have risen in New Delhi amid domestic protests in Nepal over a recent bilateral agreement between China and India regarding the Lipulekh route, which India administers but Nepal claims. Last Saturday, Oli reportedly raised the issue directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

India has consistently rejected Nepal’s claims over the Lipulekh territory, and the latest protests in Nepal appear to have further strained ties, possibly affecting Oli’s scheduled visit.
