Janardan agrees to sign party decisions

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ has agreed to sign official party decisions, ending a four-year-long boycott following his dissatisfaction over the party’s 8th General Convention.

According to party spokesperson and Vice Chair Agni Prasad Sapkota, Sharma committed to signing meeting minutes following extensive internal discussions during the party’s Standing Committee meeting held from Friday to Monday.

“He has now expressed his willingness to sign the minutes. After internal discussions, he acknowledged the concerns raised by other Standing Committee members and party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’,” said Sapkota.

Sharma had refused to sign official documents since the 8th General Convention in Kathmandu, where he had been a contender for the post of General Secretary but claimed he was unfairly blocked.

The recent party meeting also addressed Sharma’s controversial remarks from Shrawan 6 (July 22), in which he alleged that all former communist prime ministers except Manmohan Adhikari had engaged in corruption and abuse of power.

While Sharma did not formally retract his comments, Sapkota said the party decided to continue discussions on the issue in a “democratic and high-level manner.” Sharma reportedly clarified during the meeting that his remarks were not targeted directly at Prachanda.

Earlier, Prachanda had issued a stern warning, stating that anyone making internal disagreements public should leave the party. There had even been talk of disciplinary action against Sharma, but that was later dropped.

Instead of taking action, Prachanda shifted focus toward dismantling factional groups within the party.

“No decision was made to take action against any individual in this meeting,” Sapkota confirmed.

During a recent event commemorating the 47th Pushpa Lal Memorial, Sharma had claimed, “With deep regret, I must say that except for Manmohan Adhikari, all other communist leaders have engaged in extortion. This is not an accusation, but a fact.”

Although the party did not reach a conclusion on Sharma’s remarks, it agreed to continue internal discussions. The Standing Committee also decided to dissolve internal factions and interest-based groups.

“All members have pledged commitment. Anyone going against party decisions will face disciplinary action,” said Sapkota. “A monitoring committee will now oversee activities to prevent factionalism. This meeting has laid important groundwork for party purification and transformation.”

He added that new internal regulations would be published to prevent actions that go against the party’s statute, and that future decisions would strictly follow established rules and procedures.
