Acting PM Singh denies government move to legalise polygamy

POKHARA: Acting Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh has dismissed claims that the government is attempting to introduce legislation to legalise polygamy.

His remarks came the same day the issue was raised in Parliament over reports that a draft provision in the Criminal Code could potentially allow polygamy under certain conditions.

“In this day and age, do you think Parliament would pass a law allowing polygamy? That is simply not the case,” Singh said, addressing a Nepali Congress Gandaki Province Committee gathering in Pokhara. “To clarify further, you can review the original document yourself, it is not what is being claimed,” he added.
