Health Ministry proposes 2,100 additional staff for federal hospitals



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has held discussions with the Ministry of Health and Population on the implementation of the budget for the fiscal year 2025/26.

During the meeting, the Health Ministry proposed adding 2,100 personnel, including doctors and nurses, to federal hospitals to strengthen specialised services and expand healthcare delivery.

Health Minister Pradeep Paudel said additional human resources are essential to expand services across all seven provinces and to make healthcare delivery more efficient.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel stressed that skilled doctors, nurses, and other health professionals are necessary to ensure timely, effective, and quality healthcare. He said the government would move forward after further consultations on the staffing proposal.

The meeting also discussed health insurance, social security, free medicines for children, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of Bir Hospital in Duwakot, Bhaktapur, and services for burn victims.
