Three main roads in Gulmi blocked due to floods and landslides

GULMI: Three major roads in Gulmi district have been blocked since last night following continuous rainfall.

The Kaligandaki Corridor, Ridi-Tamghas, and Ridi-Bamitaksar road sections have been obstructed due to landslides and flooding, according to Ganga Bahadur Saru, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Gulmi.

A massive landslide brought down rocks and debris at Gargare in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-1, Milk in Ward No. 2, and Kanauta in Ward No. 3, completely cutting off the Kaligandaki Corridor.

Similarly, a landslide at Salleri in Rurukshetra Rural Municipality-3 has blocked the Ridi-Tamghas road section.

The Ridi-Bamitaksar road section has also been obstructed due to floods and landslides in the Dahare Khola area of Satyawati Rural Municipality-6 and at Badrebhir in Ward No. 5. Saru stated that efforts to clear the roads have been hampered by ongoing rainfall.

Frequent blockages of the Kaligandaki Corridor and Ridi-Bamitaksar road are causing increasing hardship for local residents. In addition, rising water levels have been reported in the Badigad Khola due to continued downpours.

The District Administration Office, Gulmi, has urged residents living near riverbanks to remain alert and relocate to safer areas if necessary. The District Disaster Management Committee has identified more than 200 locations in the district as being at high risk of floods and landslides.
