Nagarik Unmukti Party withdraws support from Sudurpaschim Provincial govt

KATHMANDU: The Nagarik Unmukti Party has decided to withdraw its support from the Sudurpaschim Province government led by the Nepali Congress.

A meeting of the party’s provincial parliamentary committee held in Dhangadhi, Kailali on Friday formally resolved to pull out of the ruling coalition, according to Nagarik Unmukti Party’s provincial parliamentary leader Ghanshyam Chaudhary.

The decision comes a day after Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah sacked Nagarik Unmukti Party’s Rameshwar Chaudhary from his post as Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forests and Environment. The party has denounced the dismissal as arbitrary and a direct affront to democratic values.

Chaudhary’s removal has sparked tension between Nagarik Unmukti Party and the ruling Nepali Congress, with party leaders calling it an “undemocratic and disrespectful” move. The party has indicated it is also preparing to exit the federal coalition government.

Nagarik Unmukti Party’s presence in Sudurpaschim Province has been politically significant, and its withdrawal of support could impact the stability of the Shah-led government.
