Govt prioritizing systematic reform of transport sector: Minister Dahal

KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has said that making the transport sector more systematic is a top priority for the government. To achieve this, the government is focusing on policy reforms and their effective implementation.

Speaking at the inauguration of a building constructed by the Nepal Tipper and Truck Entrepreneurs Committee in Chandragiri Municipality-7 today, Minister Dahal said that legal amendments related to the transport sector are also being pursued with urgency.

He emphasized that vehicles will be strictly regulated based on their load-carrying capacity. “To ensure the sustainable use of Nepal’s roads and infrastructure, it is crucial to enforce vehicle load limits. Overloaded trucks are causing significant damage to bridges and roads. We will begin stricter enforcement at border points,” he said.

Minister Dahal further stressed the collective responsibility to protect national infrastructure. “Bridges and roads are built to suit our geography and traffic conditions. Using vehicles that exceed the designed load capacity puts them at risk. It is our shared duty to safeguard these structures,” he added.
