KATHMANDU: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has called for the effective implementation of laws aimed at eradicating caste-based discrimination, along with a broader push for social and cultural transformation.
In his message on the occasion of the National Day on the Abolition of Caste Discrimination and Untouchability, Vice President Yadav stated that caste discrimination and untouchability are significant challenges that hinder the progress of society and the nation.
He emphasized that eliminating these practices requires collective efforts through constitutional and legal mechanisms, public awareness, and active civic participation.
“Caste-based discrimination and untouchability are deeply rooted issues that obstruct development. It is vital for everyone to take initiative to eliminate them through law enforcement, social awareness, and inclusive civic action,” he said.
The Vice President highlighted the crucial role of every citizen in combating discrimination, urging people to reject regressive mindsets, advocate for justice and equality, and contribute to the effective enforcement of anti-discrimination laws.
“For this cause, education and awareness, proactive measures, equal opportunities, and strong engagement of civil society are essential,” he added.
He further underscored the importance of promoting racial equality education at schools and community levels, and implementing inclusive policies across both public and private sectors.
Vice President Yadav also stressed the need for the active participation of marginalized communities in policy-making and public service, and called on social institutions and campaigns to be more engaged in efforts to eradicate caste-based discrimination.
He stated that only through equality, respect, and inclusion can Nepal’s federal democratic republican system be strengthened, empowered, and advanced.
