Govt committed to quality health services: Health Minister Paudel

NEPALGUNJ: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services across the country.

Speaking at a program at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj on Sunday, Minister Paudel handed over vaccines provided by the Indian government for the protection of sickle cell and thalassemia patients from infectious diseases.

He highlighted recent improvements in service delivery across public hospitals in Nepal and emphasized the need for continued enhancements.

“There is still room for improvement,” he said. “Permanent positions for specialized care such as heart and kidney transplants, and burn treatment, have been approved to better systematize hospital services. Bheri is now on the path to becoming a specialized hospital.”

Acknowledging the frequent public criticism of government hospitals, Minister Paudel urged healthcare workers to provide services that earn public trust and eliminate negative perceptions.

He stated that, despite resource constraints, the government has prioritized the expansion of both infrastructure and human resources in hospitals.

“The government is committed to providing free and quality care through the health insurance program,” he added, calling for coordinated efforts from all stakeholders.

Minister Paudel praised the establishment of a dedicated sickle cell treatment room at Bheri Hospital and emphasized the importance of raising community awareness to prevent the disease.

Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Bikash Devkota reiterated the ministry’s efforts to address hospital needs as much as possible. Dr. Nirajan Subedi, Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital, shared progress and achievements made over the past four months.
