KATHMANDU: The management of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has begun efforts to resolve the ongoing strike by sanitation workers who have not received their salaries since December.
According to Jagannath Niraula, General Manager of TIA, a formal request has been sent to the Board of Directors of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to release the pending salaries.
“If we receive the go-ahead from the Authority regarding salary payments, the issue will be resolved. We are doing the necessary groundwork,” Niraula said.
Sanitation workers at the airport have halted work in protest, leading to a severe garbage pile-up, particularly in the internal terminal building, over the past 10 days.
The airport management said it is actively working with CAAN to find a solution at the earliest and restore normal sanitation services.
