Durga Prasai’s vehicle found in Jhapa; brought to Kathmandu

Prasai believed to be in India with a few close associates

KATHMANDU: While it has yet to be officially confirmed whether Durga Prasai fled to India via the Kakadbhitta border in Jhapa, police suspect he did.

Authorities have located the vehicle that transported Prasai from Tinkune, Kathmandu, in Jhapa.

The Scorpio SUV, registered under Bagmati Province with the number Ba B 4208, is now in the custody of the police.

Prasai reportedly went into hiding inside a shuttered building after allegedly inciting violence during a rally in Tinkune, Kathmandu on March 28.

At the time, the area was in chaos, with police responding by firing tear gas and warning shots into the air.

On March 28, pro-monarchy supporters under Prasai’s leadership were seen throwing stones at private residences.

Amid the unrest, Prasai, protected by private security personnel and supporters, escaped the area in a vehicle alongside religious leader Pushkar Khatiwada.

A senior police official confirmed that Prasai, along with five others, traveled from Kathmandu to the Kakadbhitta border via the BP Highway.

The vehicle and its driver were later located in Jhapa and have since been brought to Kathmandu by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.

The source also confirmed that Prasai is currently believed to be in India with a few close associates.

After reaching Kakadbhitta, he switched vehicles and crossed into India.

Before heading to India, Prasai stopped at Pushkar Khatiwada’s home in Imadol, where he had fruits and tea, made a final phone call to RPP leader Dhawal Shumsher, and then turned off his mobile phone.
