KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress and the UML have issued a whip requiring its lawmakers to be present at the parliamentary meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
The whips were issued as the government prepares to table five ordinances in the session, following discussions with JSP Nepal and LSP.
The ordinances, except for the land-related ordinance, are set to be presented after failing to reach the National Assembly earlier due to a lack of quorum.
Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire sent a message to lawmakers on Tuesday, instructing them to attend the session and remain until the end. Similarly, UML Parliamentary Party Chief Whip Mahesh Bartoula also directed UML lawmakers to be present in the meeting.
“The ordinance will be presented for decision in the House of Representatives meeting to be held at 1 pm tomorrow, so mandatory attendance is requested,” stated the message from the UML Chief Whip.
With both major ruling parties enforcing strict attendance, Wednesday’s parliamentary session is expected to be a decisive one.
