KATHMANDU: Bhim Rawal, ousted leader of the UML, was welcomed in Biratnagar with the royalist slogan “Jai Desh Jai Naresh,” typically associated with calls for the restoration of the monarchy.

The event occurred as Rawal arrived in the east for his “Matribhumi Jagran Abhiyan” (Motherland Awareness Campaign).

Royalists gathered at Biratnagar airport with national flags to greet Rawal, though police barred them from bringing flags into the premises.

Satish Pokharel from Sunsari publicly garlanded Rawal and reiterated the slogan of “Jai Desh Jai Naresh,” urging unity against corruption and “brokers” harming the nation.

Rawal criticized UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, accusing him of turning the party into a “left-wing company” devoid of its Marxist-Leninist roots.

He alleged that Oli ousts internal critics and prioritizes loyalty over ideology.

Rawal’s Motherland Awareness Campaign aims to unite communists, non-communists, and royalists under a patriotic cause to protect the nation and its values.

This follows earlier events where royalist sentiment gained momentum, including former King Gyanendra Shah and Crown Prince Paras Shah appearing at controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai’s campaign launch in Jhapa.
