Gen-Z groups demand dismissal of Energy Minister Ghising, accuse government of losing moral authority

KATHMANDU: Four different groups associated with the Gen-Z movement have jointly claimed that the current government has lost its moral authority.

In a joint statement, the groups said the government’s legitimacy is in question as interim ministers continue to align politically with different parties. They termed such political engagement while holding executive office as a blatant violation of the principles of the government, the oath of office, and public ethics.

The groups alleged that ministers’ political activities have shaken public trust and attempted to manipulate state institutions for partisan gains.

The statement specifically criticized Energy Minister Kulman Ghising over a controversial electricity agreement with India. The groups expressed concern over suspected manipulation of the commission without the approval of the Electricity Regulatory Commission. They also claimed the minister has caused the nation a direct financial loss of Rs 430 million, a matter currently under investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

The groups warned that political activism by the minister at this time could obstruct an impartial investigation.

“Any attempt to undermine the core issues raised by the Gen-Z movement, including good governance, transparency, and accountability, will not be accepted,” the statement said.

The four groups have jointly demanded the immediate dismissal of Energy Minister Ghising, stating that no political excuses, discussions, or delays would be acceptable.

The statement concluded: “The government is a structure born of the people’s moral right. We are committed to ensuring that the private interests or partisan activities of those in office do not capture it.”
