Supreme Court issues show-cause order in UML petition against dissolution of House

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order to the government and other respondents in a writ filed by CPN-UML challenging the formation of the federal government and the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

The Constitutional Bench has directed the respondents to submit a written response within seven days.

In its petition, UML has claimed that the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki is unconstitutional. The party has demanded that all decisions and appointments made following Karki’s appointment by President Ram Chandra Paudel on September 12, including her swearing-in, be annulled.

UML has also termed the Karki-led government itself as illegal and is seeking the invalidation of all governmental actions, decisions, and appointments carried out thereafter.
