Pakistan supports digital transformation of Bharatpur Eye Hospital

KATHMANDU: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, handed over a cheque in support of the paperless digitization of the Bharatpur Eye Hospital (BEH) in Bharatpur, as a gift from the People of Pakistan.

The assistance is aimed at helping BEH upgrade its infrastructure and efficiency through an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, enabling the full digitization of its administrative and clinical processes.

Ambassador Hashmi noted that Pakistan has a proud history of collaboration with the hospital, contributing to its development and capacity building since its establishment in 1987 with financial assistance from the BCCI Foundation of Pakistan.

In recent years, the Pakistan Embassy has further supported BEH by helping establish a pharmacy, operating theatres, an outreach ambulance, and by facilitating exchanges in eye care and medical cooperation.

During his visit to Lumbini, the Ambassador paid respects at the Birthplace of Lord Buddha and held meetings with the Lumbini Development Board and the Officiating Mayor. The discussions focused on strengthening heritage linkages and deepening cultural and civic relations between Pakistan and Nepal.

Speaking at the ceremony in Bharatpur, Ambassador Hashmi emphasized that healthcare cooperation remains a key pillar of Pakistan–Nepal relations, adding that initiatives such as the digitization support for BEH reflect the shared commitment of both countries to people-centric development and regional well-being.

Chairman of the BEH Management Board, Jayram Shrestha, and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pushpa Giri, expressed deep appreciation to the People of Pakistan for their continued support and contributions to the modernization of healthcare services in Nepal.

Ambassador Hashmi additionally visited the College of Medical Sciences in Chitwan, an institution providing quality TVET in medical care, where he interacted with faculty and students.
