President Paudel leaves for Qatar to attend World Summit for Social Development

President Ram Chandra Paudel has departed for Doha, the capital of Qatar, leading a 12-member Nepali delegation at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. At Tribhuvan International Airport, President Paudel was seen off by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal. Senior government officials, heads of security agencies, and members of the diplomatic community were also present at the farewell ceremony. The Nepal Army offered a guard of honor to the President on the occasion.

PM Karki reviews government work, issues directives to ministries

Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday convened a meeting with all ministers and secretaries at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office in Singh Durbar to review the progress of ministries and government agencies under the current interim administration. During the session, secretaries presented reports on ongoing initiatives and performance, while the Prime Minister issued detailed instructions to ensure effective governance, transparency, and improved service delivery.

Government declares 45 victims of Gen-Z movement as martyrs

The government has decided to declare 45 individuals who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement as martyrs. Government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel informed that the Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday made the decision to honor those who died during the protests on September 8 and 9 in Kathmandu and various parts of the country.

South Korean Ambassador calls on Finance Minister Khanal, discusses economic cooperation

Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal held a courtesy meeting with South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Tae-Young at the Ministry of Finance on Monday. During the meeting, Minister Khanal expressed gratitude to the Government of Korea for its continued support and highlighted the long-standing bilateral diplomatic relations between the two nations. He also noted that the ongoing projects and programs supported by Korea were progressing satisfactorily and reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to strengthening economic partnership with Korea.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal inspects President Paudel’s damaged residence

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal visited President Ram Chandra Paudel’s private residence in Bohoratar on Monday to inspect damages caused during the Gen-Z protest on September 9. During the protest, the residence was vandalized and partially set on fire. Minister Aryal assured the President’s family that repairs and restoration work would be carried out.

Govt revenue and spending plummet in wake of Gen-Z movement

More than six weeks after the Gen-Z movement shook the nation, several government bodies are still struggling to resume full operations, resulting in a noticeable slowdown in the country’s economic activities. According to data published by the Ministry of Finance on Sunday, government revenue and capital expenditure during the first three and a half months of the current fiscal year have been significantly affected compared to the same period last year.

Congress dispute intensifies: Establishment faction issues 7-point proposal, insists on holding general convention after March 5 elections

The dispute over the date and timing of the Nepali Congress general convention has intensified, with differences growing among party leaders. Leaders Dr. Shekhar Koirala, General Secretary Gagan Thapa, and Bishwaprakash Sharma’s group are pressing for the party’s 15th general convention to be held before March 5. They have prepared a schedule to present at the postponed Central Working Committee meeting.

UML plans nationwide rallies to counter narrative of public disillusionment: Pokharel

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that the people will soon make it clear which side they support, stating that the narrative claiming the public has turned away from major parties is baseless. Speaking at an interaction organized by Press Chautari Nepal in Kathmandu on Monday, Pokharel announced that the UML will hold its 11th General Convention in Kathmandu on December 13–15.

Minister Ghising clarifies: reports of resignation are false

Energy, Drinking Water, and Irrigation Minister Kulman Ghising has refuted rumors that he is resigning to form a new political party. Issuing a clarification through Facebook on Monday, Minister Ghising dismissed media reports and social media claims suggesting that he was preparing to quit his post to enter politics.

Three die, eight go missing in avalanche

Three persons, including two Nepali guides, died while eight others went missing in an avalanche occurred at the Yalungri base camp in Rolwaling area of Gaurishankar rural municipality-9 on Monday morning. A foreign climber and two Nepali guides in an expedition to the Gaurishankar and Rolwaling peaks died in the avalanche occurred about 9:00 am Monday, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gyan Kumar Mahato. There were as many as 15 foreign climbers along with Nepali guides in the team.

UML opens doors for returnees with strict condition on party policies and leadership

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel on Monday called on leaders who left the party to return, stressing that the only condition for returnees is agreement on party policies and leadership, with no room for disputes or controversies. Speaking at a press interaction in Kathmandu, Pokharel said, “Coming home does not require anyone’s permission; the door is always open for our members to return.”

UML to ensure youth under 40 as representatives in upcoming general convention

The CPN-UML has decided to include representatives under the age of 40 in its 11th General Convention. According to UML’s Organizational Department Chief, Kashi Nath Adhikari, each House of Representatives constituency will select four representatives, two from the open category, one woman, and one youth under 40. The party has decided that four representatives will be chosen for every 1,200 party members in each constituency, ensuring youth participation nationwide. Additionally, 165 youth representatives will be selected from each constituency, along with five each from the ANNFSU and Youth Association Nepal.

Eight years after revolt, Gopal Kirati returns to Prachanda’s Maoist fold

In a major political development amid Nepal’s ongoing left-wing fragmentation, the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Deshbhakt Samajbadi Morcha have reached an agreement to unite and consolidate leftist and nationalist forces under a single front, marking the return of Gopal Kirati to Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s’ leadership after eight years in political exile. The agreement, announced after a meeting between Maoist Chairperson Prachanda and Morcha Chairperson Kirati, envisions bringing together patriotic, socialist, and revolutionary forces under the Maoist Center’s leadership.

Five highways remain blocked due to floods and landslides

Floods and landslides have left five major national highways in Nepal completely blocked, while two others are operating on a single lane, police officials said. Nepal Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Vinod Ghimire confirmed that heavy rains have disrupted transportation on several key routes. The Koshi Highway at Votkhola in Sankhuwasabha, Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Nepal–China connecting road in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwā, Pasang Lhamu Road in Rasuwā, and the Jomsom–Korola section in Mustang are all fully blocked.

Pukar Bam: If new and independent leaders don’t unite, everyone will end up in jail

Pukar Bam, chief of the negotiation team of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has warned that if new political parties and independent leaders fail to unite, serious legal cases may be filed against them in the near future. In a statement titled seven-point attention, Bam stated, “Even when ideas, issues, and principles are the same, if everyone takes separate paths, the way forward is clear: inside jail.”

Historic Brahma idol reinstalled at Kathmandu’s 6th-century temple

The centuries-old Brahma idol at the 6th-century Brahma Temple on Gayatri Marg, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–8, has been ceremoniously reinstalled. The restoration ceremony was led by Ward Chairperson Ashaman Sangat, also the Chair of the Metropolitan Heritage and Tourism Committee, and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, who performed the ritual worship before placing the idol back in the temple.

Friendship Bridge linking Nepal-China in Rasuwa to be completed within a month

The construction of the Miteri (Friendship) Bridge connecting Nepal and China at Rasuwagadhi is expected to be completed within a month, according to Chinese officials. The bridge, which was swept away by a flood in the Lhende Khola in June, has halted cross-border movement between the two countries. Chinese authorities have since prioritized its reconstruction despite challenging weather conditions. Rasuwa Chief District Officer Rajesh Panthi said the bridge is expected to be completed within a month following discussions with Chinese officials, after which both sides will meet again to finalize the date for its reopening.

NEPSE falls 8.24 points; market turnover declines

Nepal’s stock market benchmark, the NEPSE index, fell by 8.24 points on Monday, closing at 2,622.89 points. Market turnover also contracted, dropping to Rs 6.05 billion from Rs 9.20 billion recorded the previous day. Out of the traded companies, 72 gained, 172 fell, and 5 remained unchanged. Sector-wise, banking, finance, hydropower, investment, life insurance, microfinance, and non-life insurance recorded losses, while trading, other sectors, manufacturing and processing, hotels and tourism, and development banks posted gains.

Vehicle imports worth Rs 8.7 billion via Birgunj in three months

Vehicles worth Rs 8.70 billion have been imported through the Birgunj customs point during the first three months of the current fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the government collected Rs 7.77 billion in revenue from vehicle imports during this period. Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali said both the import volume and revenue from vehicle imports have increased compared to the same period last fiscal year.

Nurses’ Union gives 48-hour ultimatum to meet demands, warns of halting services

Nepal Nursing Association (NNA) has given the government a 48-hour ultimatum to address the demands of nurses, including salary revision and improved benefits. Issuing a statement on Sunday, the Association warned that if their demands are not fulfilled within the deadline, nurses across the country will shut down all services except emergency care. “If our demands are not addressed within 48 hours, we will halt all nursing services except emergency ones in government, private, non-government, medical colleges, and health institutions nationwide,” the statement said.

Gold price remains stable in local market, silver edges up

The price of gold remained stable in the local market on Monday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. The federation said fine gold was traded at Rs 239,700 per tola today, the same rate as on Sunday.

FNJ objects to restrictive provisions in Printing and Publication Regulations

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed its disagreement with several provisions in the Printing and Publication (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2082, arguing that they undermine press freedom. In a statement issued today, the FNJ said that some provisions are restrictive, including the imposition of fees on media outlets that previously received free registration and renewal, and the authorization of monitoring and inspection by local authorities.

Department of Passports to issue 1,000 passports daily

The Department of Passports has announced that it will distribute 1,000 passports each day, excluding public holidays, starting this evening. According to a statement issued by the Department, a new procurement agreement for the supply of electronic passports was signed with a new supplier in August. Under this agreement, new infrastructure and systems are being developed to begin the upgraded passport service from February 23, 2026.

Prithvi Highway reopens after landslide clearance

Two-way traffic has resumed along the Prithvi Highway after it was obstructed by a dry landslide at Chumkhola in Ichchakamana Rural Municipality-3, Chitwan, last night. According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, the road was cleared using equipment mobilized by the Department of Roads. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal, the office’s information officer, said that traffic movement in both directions resumed late last night after the debris was removed.
